Alternative energy sources, feeding the national grid, will never be for free for the consumer.
The closest one can get is to have a heat pump installed in the own home. This would substantially reduce the consumer's energy bill, at feasible installation costs, surely when subsidized by governments.
This should have been started with at least 40 years ago - the technology is much older than that ...
