In the late 1970’s, when working on his diploma project (for upper secondary school, or high school), Rudolph Draaisma noticed something interesting. Using a simple setup, water in a container sitting outside on a cold but sunny winter’s day, could be heated up to 80°C by sunshine alone. In principle, it should be possible to build cheap and efficient “solar water panels” for heating homes.
